Funny story about sign language though, I asked my friend who was learning sign language how deaf people exclaim things or "shout" them, and he said "maybe they still just shout." At this point, I contorted my hands into a faux signing, and opened my mouth and let slip a guttural shout.
I'm a king.
Lmfao that's funny. We sign with the kiddos at work. My sister has been deaf in one ear since birth and my dad is hard of hearing in both ears. Plus it's fun to learn. The nice thing you can't do with other languages is that you can speak your own language WHILE doing this one so you can get plenty of practice and build the connections.

Why are you learning sign language? (unless i'm mixing up my acronyms)
Just curious.
If you really want to 100% commit to learning it's best to just dive right in. Purchase a book containing all the most common words and force yourself to only use your hands in your spare time (speaking outloud to the person after you sign). Guarantee after 6 months you'll be able to hold a decent convo.
I am learning it because we use it at work. It's fun to learn. Plus I have two family members that are partially deaf.
I like that you can sign while talking, strengthens the connections making it easier to learn. I have a book that I've had since we found out about my sister being deaf in one ear. But it's more phrases and stuff that I wouldn't use often.
I'm finding youtube videos the most helpful.
At some point I will likely take online sign language courses for continuing education as required by my job.
